Sneak Peek: Romantic Gatsby Wedding Inspiration

Hey, East Maders!

Let me start by stating the obvious: it's July tomorrow. What! Does anyone else feel like this summer is just speeding by? Honestly, I kind of feel like I was left back in May but at the same time, I'm getting super excited for our fall weddings and color palettes! This September and October are going to be SO fun and I already can't wait to share some of our upcoming fall weddings with you on the blog because I know they are going to be gorgeous.

Today, I'm sharing a sneak peek photo from CJK Visuals of our romantic Gatsby-inspired styled shoot held a couple weeks ago at Congressional Country Club! The model from our Ethereal Coastal Shoot, Samantha Jaeger, is the new Director of Weddings and Events at Congressional, so during our coastal shoot we started chatting about future ideas! Does that happen to anyone else? Even when you're AT one shoot, you start thinking of the next. Because Congressional opened in 1924 (the year before The Great Gatsby was written) Sammy wanted to host a fun, Gatsby-inspired shoot at this historic venue.

When I first started thinking about how to design this shoot, my main goal was to stay away from the typical Gatsby party colors of black, gold, and super-lavish-glitter-everything, and do something a bit different but still soft and romantic. Planner tip: for each of my styled shoots, I usually google and Pinterest-search my theme to exhaustion to make sure I'm not duplicating something another designer has already done! The Gatsby party theme was hugely popular in 2013 when the Gatsby movie with Leonardo DiCaprio came out. Even more recently, (true confessions: I do watch The Kardashians!) Kris Jenner had an extravagant, Gatsby-themed 60th birthday party. So, I decided to use a little black and gold/glitz but also bring in touches of lavender, plum, and peach to soften the color palette.

The gals at Sweet Root Village crafted a gorgeous bouquet and boutonniere with peach Juliet roses, lavender roses, sweet peas, greenery, and peonies, and also made an elaborate centerpiece runner that I'll share more of later! When our other vendors saw the large bouquet, the tagline became, "It's so fluffy!" I worked with BHLDN to borrow two dresses - one sparkly, one more vintage, and a local Baltimore shop called The Parisian Flea to borrow all of the jewelry and accessories. Rachel Lane from the team at Ariel Lewis did our model's hair and make-up and we even had a fun confetti toss you can see here

And, our gorgeous models? Alexandra (Allie) is Samantha's sister and Andrew works as a chef at Congressional! I love this photo of them; her brown eyes are just stunning. Stay tuned to see the rest of this shoot on the blog later in the summer! Hope you all have a relaxing Thursday and are excited for this holiday weekend.
